Atopic dermatitis is likely to be more common nowadays due to environmental changes and chronic dermatitis most common in children. The main nature of the disease is dry, itchy skin, some may be flaky or red. If it is chronic, it develops to a thick, itchy rash, some children scratch until they get wounded.
Allergic skin rash
Atopic Dermatitis is a condition of chronic skin inflammation caused by allergic reactions, causing dry, red skin, local rashes and constant itching. Which can happen to all genders and ages. But it is most common in children. Which is currently unable to be cured directly but may be treated by relieving symptoms and prevent symptoms from spreading to other parts of the body.The nature of the rash varies according to the age as follows:
- Infancy - can be born from infancy. The rash often appears on the cheeks, on the back of the limbs, the appearance of the rash can range from dry, scaly, reddish rash, watery bumps or oily drainage.
- Childhood - characteristic rash is similar in infancy, but if a rash starts. Especially in the neck, arm, elbow, back leg is very itchy, some can scratch until it bleeds.
- Mature - rash-like in childhood, but will be thicker if it is chronic. But in some cases that are very high, it can be all over the body.
Causes of atopic dermatitis
The cause is not yet known but believe that part of it is caused by heredity and allergies. In addition, allergic rashes are often found in conjunction with other allergies, including air allergy, asthma.
Allergens include:
- Air allergens include dust mites, cockroaches, fur or animal dandruff, mold, pollen.
- Common food allergens include milk, eggs, nuts, wheat flour, soy, seafood.
- Triggers that cause rashes to recur
- The weather is too hot or too cold Which results in sweat or dry skin
- An infection
- Skin irritants include chemicals, detergents, coarse cloths, soaps, or some talcum powder.
- Anxiety stress

Treatment of atopic dermatitis
- Avoid allergens and the triggers that cause relapse as mentioned above
- Keep your skin dry, including avoiding warm or hot baths or using skin irritants such as liquid soaps, creams, or nourishing oils for sensitive skin.
- If exercising, sweating and rashes are aggravated. Have a shower after exercising apply a nourishing cream. Should be in a cool place so as not to sweat.
- A moisturizer should be applied only after bathing and apply after shower for about 3 minutes, but can be applied more during the day if the skin is dry and itchy.
- Nails should always be cut short. to prevent scratching, which can be harmful to the skin.
- Treatment by using topical or oral drugs should consult a medical professional.
However, although the disease is chronic and persistent, most children with it get better with age as they grow up. Taking good care of your skin, avoiding factors that will trigger a relapse and the proper use of topical medications. This will allow the patient to control the symptoms of the disease as well as being able to recover from this disease.
